Green Campus
Red Deer Polytechnic is on the road to becoming a greener campus for a more environmentally friendly future. The institution's Green Campus Task Group has an important goal: to inform and educate the Polytechnic community about the importance of energy and water conservation and other pertinent environmental issues. We establish targets and implement protocols for the reduction, recycling, and re-use of materials. Programs are also initiated to encourage the use of alternate transportation, increase recycling and improve energy conservation.
Alternative Transportation
- Walking/Cycling
- Carpooling – discuss the option of carpooling with your colleagues
- Transit
Recycling
Red Deer Polytechnic strives to increase the amount of recycling done on our campuses by educating our Polytechnic community and encouraging everyone to incorporate environmentally friendly practices:
- Bring your own mug and/or water bottle
- Pack your lunch in a re-usable bag
- Use the designated on-campus recycling bins
- Other recycling (paper, batteries etc.)
Energy Conservation
- Water Conservation
- Lights Out Program
- Power Down Program
Reduce
Through our Alternative Energy Initiative, Red Deer Polytechnic will aim to reduce the consumption of natural gas, electricity and power. We will also strive to decrease the impact on local landfills by implementing composting and waste diversion.
