Biography

Heather Agnew (she/her) started her career in Scotland where she completed her undergraduate in Psychology. Heather has worked in several settings providing support to individuals with complex mental health illnesses, including the Scottish Association for Mental Health and Woods Homes, before deciding to complete her Master of Counselling in Counselling Psychology with Athabasca University.  

Heather completed her practicum hours with Red Deer Polytechnic in 2020/21 and secured a contract position as a counsellor at RDP after graduation. In 2022, she was the successful candidate for her current role as a faculty counsellor.  

Heather is a Registered Provisional Psychologist; her areas of interest include anxiety, ADHD, and relationships. Heather is client-centred and loves bringing humour and warmth into her sessions. Her primary modalities include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, narrative, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. 

Heather cares deeply about understanding her students and views them as valuable people with unique life stories. She provides a non-judgmental, safe, and supportive environment that empowers students to make positive changes needed to live happy and fulfilled lives. She believes the key to successful therapy is developing a strong therapeutic relationship rooted in empathy, trust, mutual respect, and understanding.
