Biography

Crystal completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta in 1998 (an alumnus of Red Deer College {now Red Deer Polytechnic} as she completed her first 2 years of this degree here).  Crystal began instructing at Red Deer Polytechnic in 1999 and continued until 2006.  She began her graduate degree at the University of Calgary and completed her MKin, specializing in Exercise Physiology in 2008.  During her graduate studies, Crystal worked with the undergraduate students in the U of C BKin. program as well as graduate work in the Human Performance Lab before returning to Red Deer Polytechnic in 2010 in an instructional position.  

Crystal is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, certified through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and is an Instructor-Examiner for the CSEP Certified Personal Trainer designation.  Her work in exercise science has afforded experience with the severely deconditioned, including populations with chronic disease, all the way through to elite athletes in amateur and professional sport.  Research during her graduate studies covered many areas of sport science including anthropometry, periodization, and the feasibility of high intensity interval training interventions for individuals with chronic disease.  Crystal’s main areas of teaching and expertise are Exercise Physiology, Structural Anatomy, Growth and Motor Development and Personalized Fitness.
